Volunteers Week 2025: Meet Gail

My name is Gail Brocklebank, I’m 54 and I volunteer in the bar. I started volunteering in January 2023 and became involved by just talking to a friend, who is a member, (heavily involved in many areas), and she said they are always looking for volunteers, she I thought, let’s give it a go!

I really enjoy working with the people who come to watch the shows. Bad customer service is the norm nowadays and I don’t think it’s acceptable. I am a people person and think I can read a person well, I love a bit of banter with them! I would like to think that when they come to the bar, I greet them courteously and with a smile, making them feel welcome and hope they enjoy their overall experience at the theatre just a little bit more. I’ve met some lovely new people at the theatre and formed new friendships along the way.

I would definitely recommend volunteering, it’s fulfilling, you make new friends, you get a free ticket now and again,  it’s a few hours here and there, (your choice), there’s no pressure, and without volunteers, the theatre can’t operate.

The theatre needs new volunteers in every department, from front of house, box office, wardrobe, set building, lighting, you name it, without the help of volunteers, this fantastic venue would not be able to operate and the town would lose it. All I can say is, if you’re at a loose end, can give a little bit of time, no matter how much and want to help with something, even if you’ve never done it, training is given. We are all here to help you. If you’ve thought about it……..do it!!
